The Diavik diamond mine, 300 kilometers north of Yellowknife, produces some of the finest quality diamonds on the planet. When the company began producing diamonds in 2003, the challenge was to train workers, some of whom had low literacy skills, to work safely and effectively.

the solution

Working with our colleagues, Converge Consulting and Emerge Learning, Brainstorm created a highly interactive, video rich, training tool called DSTS (Diavik Safety Training System).  DSTS is effective with all workers, including those with low literacy skills.  Over the years this system has been used to train thousands of workers in safety and we have expanded this “on-line university” to include extensive operator and environment training as well.  The system works to allow workers to achieve mastery of content in a much shorter period of time than traditional classroom learning.
